Recipient of First-Ever NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Scholarship Recipient Encourages Others to "Begin writing your own story today!"
Aug. 8, 2014
Kellie Rittenhouse is a name – and personality – known to many in the S&D community. From humble beginnings at a "mom and pop" flight school and FBO to serving as chair of the NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Committee, Rittenhouse has had an immeasurable impact on the S&D community during her continuous journey as a self-described lifelong learner.
After catching the "aviation bug" early in her career, Rittenhouse got married, relocated and found herself in a challenging new environment, unsure of what her next steps should be. She found the answer at the NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference. She received a monetary award in 1999 that helped her complete an undergraduate degree and earn an FAA dispatch license.
"Earning a scholarship gave me the little push I needed to move forward, and it created the momentum for me to focus on professional development," said Rittenhouse.
That post-scholarship momentum was just the beginning – it snowballed into an unwavering pursuit of professional development opportunities. She went on to lead the S&D Committee and earn her CAM certification. As she advances in her own career, Rittenhouse is constantly looking for ways to share her knowledge and experience with others.
"I love learning!" said Rittenhouse. "I’m always asking, 'How can I share the relevance of my experience and skills where others would also benefit?'"
Rittenhouse can often be found sharing her vast experiences with others. Today, she continues her involvement in the business aviation community through her service on the S&D Advisory Council and the CAM Governing Board. Rittenhouse has never forgotten her humble beginnings and she credits part of her success to the NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Scholarship and Training Award program.
"I’m grateful for my roots in the S&D community," said Rittenhouse. "I’m proof that good things happen when you take a moment to complete an application and get busy following your dream."
Rittenhouse continues to follow her dream and chase down professional development opportunities. She is currently evaluating advanced degree programs that will support her current and future career goals. Rittenhouse remains adamant that success can be achieved by anyone who makes the effort to get involved and make professional development a priority.
"Today, I sign my name with the initials “CAM’ – a Certified Aviation Manager," said Rittenhouse. "That’s another way to say, “if I can do this, you can too!’ Begin writing your own story today!"
