A new jobs and career website for pilots, flight attendants, aviation technicians, aviation managers and other aviation professionals has been launched by a diversified industry group called Aviation Workforce Development, Inc. (AWD).
Tara Harl, executive director of AWD and chair of NBAA’s Professional Development Subcommittee, described AWD as the aviation industry’s support organization for career entry, advancement, leadership development and issue resolution.
“We’re here to connect interested parties in like-minded ventures, offer templates for change and encourage cross-generational bridging,” she said.
AWD’s web pages provide career information for airlines, the military, manufacturing, unmanned aircraft operations, air traffic control, government, airports and general aviation. Six quick-link categories by occupation are shown, with subsections of each providing information by class of employer, such as airline and business aviation.
An employment section links to more than a dozen company and aviation job boards with employment listings.
Harl, who founded the project that evolved into NBAA’s Business and Collegiate Aviation Pipeline Program, said that several of AWD’s board members are involved with business aviation and are current or past members of NBAA’s Board of Directors. She added that NBAA’s Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) program and Professional Development Program (PDP) are two of the key resources on the new website.
AWD has scheduled a May 7 symposium for industry leaders, including NBAA, to explore other ways to encourage young men and women to choose aviation as their career. Called AWD Think Tank 2013, it is co-sponsored by the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association and will be held in Minnesota in facilities provided by the Twin Cities Metropolitan Airports Commission.
