Safety in Focus for Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association

April 12, 2018

For a decade, the Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association (PNBAA) has been promoting the importance of safety in the industry. This year was no exception as the group hosted its Second Annual PNBAA Safety Office Roundtable and 10th Annual PNBAA Safety & Security Day earlier this month.

The well-attended Safety Office Roundtable, held April 4, brought together the safety officers from several regional operators to discuss “hot topics.” One topic, a study underway by the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) program, a collaborative government & industry partnership, brought together operators to discuss traffic flow issues around Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Boeing Field, and a working group will soon be formed to continue discussions on this issue.

The Safety & Security Day, which brought out more than 125 attendees on April 5, included sessions ranging from “Fly With Passion and Reverence,” by Sean Tucker to “Proactive Approaches to Fatigue Risk Management in Flight Operations,” by Dr. Daniel Mallicone to “Making Change Work in Your Organization,” by Dr. Amy Grubb. NBAA Senior Manager, Safety and Flight Operations Mark Larsen also presented a safety update to the group.

“I presented a broad update on the efforts and resources of the NBAA Safety Committee,” Larsen said. “In addition, I spoke about NBAA’s forthcoming work to respond to the NTSB recommendations to NBAA from the 2014 Gaithersburg, MD accident involving a Phenom 100 aircraft. The members in attendance learned that we are spooling up the project team to address that NTSB recommendation.”

Following the safety events, PNBAA and NBAA’s Young Professionals (YoPro) group co-sponsored a networking social.

"NBAA continues to be honored to support the efforts of this vital regional business aviation organization,” said Kristi Ivey, NBAA’s Northwest regional representative. “Because of the events and deliverables produced by PNBAA, NBAA and others have recognized the organization for Outstanding Excellence by a Local & Regional Group in 2017."
