Applicants for NBAA’s Maintenance Technical Reward and Career Scholarship (TRACS) have about a month and a half – the deadline is March 2 – before they must complete the paperwork to be eligible for one of these technical education and training awards.
TRACS applicants can either be current holders of an airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate who are employed in general aviation, or students enrolled in either an accredited A&P program or an approved FAR Part 147 school. Also, for the first time, aviation military personnel transitioning to business aviation will be considered. Recipients will be announced at the NBAA Maintenance Management Conference, which is to be held May 1 to 3 in Nashville, TN. Learn more about Maintenance TRACS.
But the TRACS award is just one of several scholarships that NBAA will be handing out this year, with July 31 being the next deadline for three more NBAA scholarships that cover students at University Aviation Association (UAA) institutions, those seeking maintenance training and students pursuing business aviation management degrees.
The first of these awards is the Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship, which will provide $4,500 to each of five undergraduate students who are enrolled at UAA-member institutions. Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students enrolled for the academic year in an aviation-related two-year or four-year degree program and have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The William H. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship will award $2,500 to each of two applicants pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award will benefit a student who currently is enrolled in an accredited A&P program at an approved FAR Part 147 school. The second award will benefit an individual who currently is not enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program.
The final NBAA award with a July 31 application deadline is the Alan H. Conklin Business Aviation Management Scholarship, which will provide $5,000 to an undergraduate student who is officially enrolled in an aviation management program at a UAA-member school.
NBAA’s scholarship program, generously supported through Member donors, offers a total of nearly $100,000 annually in cash awards as tuition reimbursement for enrolled students, and nearly the same amount in monetary and training awards for working business aviation professionals, including pilots, maintenance professionals, schedulers, dispatchers, flight attendants and flight technicians.
