2014 FIFA World Cup – Brazil

The FIFA World Cup, to be held in Brazil from June 12 through July 13, 2014, is the biggest single-event sporting competition in the world and is contested by the senior men’s national teams from the 208 Member Associations of FIFA. 

The finals will be held July 12 and 13 in Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. There will be 12 host cities across Brazil.

Brazil Permit Requirements

Permits are required for all operations to Brazil – including overflights and landings. Permits are also required to operate foreign registered aircraft domestically within Brazil.

Airport Slot and Aircraft Parking Considerations

All primary airports will require slots and/or prior permission required (PPRs) during the games.

The Centro de Gerenciamento da Navegacao Aerea (CGNA) will be responsible for the ATC slot allocation for general aviation and heads of state and VIPs. The CGNA has provided a power point presentation of slot allocation and temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) at the 12 game sites.

Brazil Airport Overview

INFRAERO, a Brazilian government corporation, operates many larger airports in the country. There are also an increasing number of privately managed airports in Brazil. Note that many smaller/domestic airports are not airports of entry, and some may not have English-speaking air traffic control towers.

Entry Document Requirements

Visas are necessary for all crew who do not possess certificates issued by a national governing aviation entity (FAA, Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile). Passenger visa requirements must be checked prior to operating to Brazil. Passenger visas cannot be obtained on arrival.
