The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recently published a safety information bulletin warning aircraft operators of missile launches from the Caspian Sea to Syria. The missiles were launched on Oct. 6 and 7.

“Operators flying in this airspace should exercise extreme caution,’ said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president of regulatory and international affairs. “NBAA recommends operators flying in this area review the latest information regarding military operations, be aware of the risks before traveling and if possible, avoid the area altogether.’

These missile launches are notable because, according to EASA, the missile paths “necessarily’ crossed the airspace over the Caspian Sea, Iran and Iraq below flight routes used by commercial airplanes.

EASA issued no recommendations; the Bulletin is merely informational. The FAA has not issued any new notices, warning or restrictions for the region. View current FAA policies regarding the region.
