NBAA Congratulates Patrick Ky on EASA Post
March 15, 2013
Patrick Ky, executive director of Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR) Joint Undertaking, has been tapped to lead the European Air Safety Agency (EASA).
Ky replaces Patrick Goudou, who has led EASA since its inception in September 2003. Goudou’s term at EASA expires at the end of August.
A 23-year veteran of European civil aviation, Ky was the principal force behind the creation and implementation of the European Union’s air traffic management modernization program since 2007. He has held several managerial posts in French civil aviation and at Eurocontrol. He joined the European Union in 2004 to begin work with SESAR.
“We have always viewed our relationship with EASA as vitally important,” noted Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president for safety, security, regulation & operations. “Along with our European partners at the European Business Aviation Association, we are currently working with EASA on crucial issues like crew rest, Annex VI and much more. We value this partnership and look forward to renewing these strong ties with Mr. Ky as he prepares to lead EASA.”
In a statement announcing his appointment, EASA said Ky’s term as executive director will begin Sept. 1.
