A two-phase runway construction project at Orlando International Airport (MCO) is scheduled to begin on Jan. 12, and continue into April 2016. Runway 17R/35L will be closed during phase one, and Runway 18L/36R will close during phase two.

Phase One

Runway 17R/35L closed: Beginning Jan. 12, and lasting approximately 60 days

Taxiway closures: Taxiways G and H south of F, as well as Taxiway E and E6 east of 17R

Operational Impacts During Phase One

  • Expect delays and increased taxi times during the closure
  • Some departure and arrival taxi routes will be non-standard
  • There will be limited taxi alternatives, limited movement areas, limited staging capability during closures

Operational Plans During Phase One

South Operation

Arrive Runways 18R and 17L – Depart Runway 18L

Arrival rates

  • VMC conditions 64 per hour / IMC conditions 52 per hour

Departure rates

  • VMC and IMC conditions 52 per hour

North Operation

Arrive Runways 36L and 35R – Depart Runway 36R

Arrival rates

  • VMC conditions 64 per hour / IMC conditions 52 per hour

Departure rate

  • VMC and IMC conditions 52 per hour

Phase Two

Runway 18L/36R closed: Beginning approximately March 12, 2016 and lasting approximately 60 days
