Underscoring the essential relationship between business aviation operations and the airports that serve them, three NBAA staff members will be speaking this week at the 10th annual General Aviation Issues and Security Conference, presented by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE). The event, hosted by Centennial Airport (APA) and sponsored in part by NBAA, is being held Aug. 21 to 23 in Denver, CO.
AAAE began the conference a decade ago, focusing on the issues and challenges faced by the thousands of airports that serve general aviation – from the largest air carrier hub airports to the smallest rural facilities. This year, Alex Gertsen, NBAA director of airports and ground infrastructure and a former AAAE staff member, was involved in planning the event and is moderating a session devoted to business aviation.
Titled “Strengthening Airport Partnerships with Business Aviation,” the panel will showcase a case study of Flagship Foods, which relies on an aircraft based at Centennial Airport that plays a critical role in the success of the business. NBAA’s Steve Hadley, director of regional programs and Southwest regional representative, will provide insights into the many NBAA resources available for airport advocacy and community relations. Hadley also will update attendees about the advocacy efforts of NBAA’s six regional representatives at numerous airports around the country.
Dick Doubrava, NBAA vice president, government affairs, will participate in the opening session, “State of the General Aviation Industry,” during which association and government executives will discuss key general aviation issues as well as the challenges that the future holds, including the economy, funding, infrastructure, access, regulations and more.
Doubrava will discuss the outcome of this year’s FAA reauthorization debate on Capitol Hill and the importance of remaining vigilant against efforts to privatize ATC and impose aviation user fees.
