The General Aviation Awards program, a cooperative effort between more than a dozen aviation organizations and the FAA, is designed to recognize individual aviation professionals on the local, regional and national levels for their contributions to aviation, education and flight safety.

Arlynn McMahon, chairman of the General Aviation Committee, noted there are two reasons why the annual General Aviation Awards selection is important. “First of all, the typical winner is not someone who is self-promoting but someone whose professionalism sets them apart,” McMahon, a past Flight instructor of the Year, said. “And second, those selected set the bar for their peers in the next generation.”

Nominations are accepted in four categories: Flight Instructor of the Year, Maintenance Technician of the Year, Avionics Technician of the Year and FAASTeam Representative of the Year. Winners are announced each year at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture event in Oshkosh, WI.

“The real story is about the nominees and winners and how it impacts their lives and the lives of those around them,” said McMahon. “They often go on to serve on airport and industry committees locally and nationally.”

Nominations are being accepted through Sept. 30 for the 2015 General Aviation Awards.
