Washington, DC, Aug. 30, 2017 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) welcomes back two important safety events, which bookend NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE) in Las Vegas, NV: the Single Pilot Safety Standdown on Oct. 9 and the National Safety Forum on Oct. 12. Both events are free for NBAA-BACE attendees, though registration is required.

The 2017 NBAA Single Pilot Safety Standdown takes place the day before NBAA-BACE officially opens, and will focus on building a safety culture in a small or single-pilot organization.

Tricia Coffman, who lost her husband in an aviation accident in 2005 and now serves as vice president of the National Air Disaster Alliance/Foundation, will discuss the ripple effects of an accident, which extend far beyond the pilot, passengers and aircraft. Aaron McCarter, from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will look at accident causation and explore in detail how an accident chain builds and unfolds. Other industry safety experts will focus on culture and safety data analysis for single pilot operations.

“This half-day event is an intense and interactive look at safety from a single pilot or owner/operator perspective,” said David Ryan, chair of NBAA’s Safety Committee. “It is a must-attend opportunity for single pilots and owner/operators to zero in on safety and culture in terms applicable to their unique operations. This event will change how you approach daily operations.”

The third annual NBAA National Safety Forum will wrap up NBAA-BACE on Thursday, Oct. 12, with a slightly modified schedule from previous years. The new half-day agenda begins with keynote addresses from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and NTSB representatives, including NTSB member Earl Weener. The forum also will focus on three of the 2017 NBAA Top Safety Focus Areas: fitness for duty, airport and ground handling safety and loss of control – inflight.

“The National Safety Forum is a popular event for pilots, schedulers, technicians and other business aviation professionals,” said Ryan. “This year’s modified schedule makes it the perfect event to round out your 2017 NBAA-BACE experience. We encourage NBAA-BACE attendees to plan their travel accordingly to attend these two outstanding ‘bookend’ safety events.”

Both the Single Pilot Safety Standdown and the National Safety Forum will be webcast live with archived recordings available after the events.

NBAA-BACE is business aviation’s most important annual event, where participants have an unequaled opportunity to view the latest business aircraft, products, technology and services the industry offers. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from Oct. 10-12, the event also offers a premier networking venue, and dozens of educational sessions.
