(Meets NBAA PDP Objective Ops 4)

This workshop provides information and guidance to operators who are implementing, or considering implementing, the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), in order to help them complete the IS-BAO registration process efficiently and effectively. Flight department managers, chief pilots, safety officers and maintenance managers are the target audience, but the workshop is also useful for any member of the flight department management team involved in IS-BAO implementation. (Separate registration fee required.)

Regional Review: Southeast Asia/China – Business Aviation's New Frontier

With billions of dollars in new aircraft deliveries, construction of new FBOs and GATs, the Chinese and Southeast Asian business aviation environment is rapidly expanding. Despite the gains made in recent years, operating to this region is still fraught with challenges and idiosyncrasies that could potentially derail even the most experienced operators. First-hand strategies from ground support experts as well as pilots who frequently travel to this region will be provided covering the process and requirements for obtaining permits and visas, to cultural considerations, ground support and more, ensuring successful operations to one of the world's emerging economies.

International Regulatory Restrictions

When operating around the world, virtually each of the 190-plus ICAO states has variations on the SARPS. It is up to the operator (under FARs) to be knowledgeable of these differences before going into their airspace. This Session is designed to address the most common of the "gotcha" issues such as permitting, overflights, sanction rules, ICAO 2012 Flight Planning, EU-ETS and the U.S. and U.K. Corruption and Bribery laws.

With increased air traffic around the world, in both domestic and oceanic airspace, it is increasingly necessary for aircraft to operate to tighter navigational specifications. These are the drivers behind NextGen in the U.S. and SESAR in the EU. But, it is happening in Canada, the NAT, PAC, the Gulf and elsewhere with their attendant avionics and training requirements. Technologies, such as FANS, CPDLC, ADS-B, PBN, VDL Mode 2 and others, are being calendarized for implementation. This Session will attempt to provide a map to these programs.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation in the Oceanic Environment

There is an incredible array of unique demands when flying across oceans and borders. This Session will review many critical issues unique to international flying today focusing on Gross Navigation Errors (GNEs), including large height deviations, lateral deviations, time/speed-related errors and ATC interventions to prevent GNEs for underlying causes and the associated risks introduced in oceanic airspace. Recommended corrective actions will be incorporated into the SMS process.

The panel includes ground handlers as well as operators, and will outline actual operations of a trip from the pilot's perspective. The Session will conclude with a discussion of operational concerns affecting operators when planning trips to Europe and Russia, highlighting timelines/changes to procedures and requirements since IOC 2011.
