Exhibitor Profile: Powervamp

NBAA2013 Brings Ground Equipment Manufacturer to Las Vegas From U.K.

With two factories in the United Kingdom, Powervamp manufactures ground power units (GPUs) for all types of aircraft, from small piston airplanes to the largest airliners.

The 20-year-old company has 40 employees across its locations in Bristol and Luton north of London, where it makes large static frequency converters for FBOs, and DC battery packs and carts.

“We cover the whole spectrum, from small DC portable packs for the smallest Piper piston-engine right up to 400Hz AC packs for the Boeing 787,” said Richard Roller, Powervamp managing director. “Our other strength is product support. Our engineers travel around the world, because a GPU that doesn’t work is no different than an aircraft that doesn’t work.”

This is the sixth time Powervamp has exhibited at NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, and the company comes to meet with equipment distributors, aircraft OEMs and operators. With the entire business aviation industry gathered in Las Vegas, Roller traveled from London to meet with current distributors and new potential customers.

“We expect the show to be well-attended. The market is strengthening, there’s no doubt about it,” said Roller. “People are buying new aircraft and they’re going to need new ground power units to power them up.”
