NBAA Golf Tournament to Raise Money for Charity

September 6, 2012

In conjunction with the NBAA 65th Annual Meeting & Convention (NBAA2012), the Association will hold its 16th Annual Chairman's Charity Classic golf tournament to raise money for aviation-related charities.

An estimated 240 golfers are expected to hit the links at the Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, FL. Play begins at noon ET on Monday, Oct. 29, a day before NBAA2012 opens.

NBAA Chairman of the Board Richard Shine will preside over this year’s tournament. Proceeds will benefit NBAA Charities, a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds for philanthropic organizations and initiatives that use general aviation airplanes for humanitarian purposes. Since the tournament was founded in 1997, it has raised nearly $500,000 for various charities.

“The tournament is an excellent opportunity for NBAA Members to support a worthy cause while networking with industry peers and enjoying a beautiful and challenging world-class golf course,” said Benjamin Schwalen, NBAA counsel and corporate secretary. “Like last year, the tournament will be held the day before the Convention opens, which allows for greater participation.”

Registration for this year’s 18-hole tournament costs $295 for individuals and $1,180 for foursomes. Golfers can sign up online when registering for NBAA2012 or by going directly to the tournament website. No minimum skill level is required to play. Participants will test their skills on the Jack Nicklaus-designed New Course and North/South Course at Grand Cypress, which hosted NBAA’s tournament three years ago.

The tournament will conclude with an awards reception at 4:30 p.m.

“We have a variety of awards, including the lowest-scoring teams from each course,” Schwalen said. “There are also longest-drive, straightest-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests on each course.”

Bus transportation will be provided to and from Grand Cypress. The pickup locations and times will be available on the NBAA website within a few weeks.

The tournament features many sponsorship opportunities. All sponsorships include recognition on the sponsorship banner at the course, and most packages include player positions in the tournament.
