Welcome To NBAA’s Online Convention News Bureau From Ed Bolen

NBAA's President and CEO, Ed BolenORLANDO, FL, October 5, 2008 – On behalf of the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), let me be the first to welcome you to the Online News Bureau for our 61st Annual Meeting & Convention (NBAA2008).

As you may know, NBAA represents more than 8,000 of businesses of all sizes, located in cities and communities across the country. These companies have in common the use of "general aviation" airplanes (mostly small airplanes not used by the airlines or military) to help their businesses compete, grow and succeed.

The concept is fairly simple: Just as companies can benefit from the use of technology, business aviation offers companies improved efficiency of travel, increased employee productivity en route to a destination, and strengthened access to new markets and opportunities.

The benefit business aviation also brings to local economies is without question – studies have shown that companies using general aviation airplanes for business employ more than a million people and generate hundreds of billions of dollars in economic output each year.

NBAA is proud to host this diverse makeup of businesses at our annual Convention. This year, we’re coming to you from Orlando, FL. Here, at the Orange County Convention Center,   all manner of people involved in nearly every aspect of business aviation are coming together from October 6-8.

Included among the more than 1,100 Exhibitors with us this week are new business aircraft firms, avionics firms, handling organizations, fractional providers, charter/lease companies, technology-development firms and a host of other small and mid-size businesses that might surprise you. These businesses are from all over the United States, and they are often critical employment centers in the towns where they are located. Throughout the week, we’ll be showcasing a number of them here on this web site.

Also with us are more than 140 aircraft on display at nearby Orlando Executive Airport. There, people can get a close-up at these aircraft, and learn more about the many ways they are utilized to support businesses.

As with our previous Conventions, we’ll also have some great speakers with us.

For example, given the international nature of business aviation, we’re pleased to have International Civil Aviation Organization President Roberto Kobeh González as the keynote speaker at our Opening General Session.

And, with the presidential campaigns making news each day, we’ll look forward to hearing from famed political commentators James Carville and Mary Matalin.

We’ll also have with us some of the policymakers whose work directly impacts our industry, including National Transportation Safety Board Director Robert Sumwalt.

This NBAA Online Convention News Bureau will bring all of this, and more, right to your fingertips. Whether you’re in the business aviation community, or you’re learning about it for the first time, we’ll have the articles, podcasts, video clips, presentations and other information illustrating what business aviation is all about – and why it’s so important.

We’ll be updating the content on this site on an hourly basis, so be sure to return often. And, if you have questions, be sure to send them our way, at

Thanks for visiting, and we hope our Online Convention News Bureau will be of service to you.
