Governors in Alaska, Connecticut and Maryland are the latest to restate their support for business aviation, and community airports in their states.
“Alaska has more private planes per capita than any other state in the union,” noted Gov. Bill Walker in his September proclamation, “and, on average, Alaskans fly more than eight times as often as residents of other states.” Review the Alaska proclamation. (PDF)
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy also declared September to be “General Aviation Appreciation Month.” “Many communities in Connecticut depend heavily on GA and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state,” he wrote. Maryland Gov. Lawrence Hogan, Jr. said that GA airports in Maryland support more than $704 million in business-generated revenue. “General aviation plays a vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters,” he added. Review the Maryland proclamation. (PDF)
In addition, officials from Ocean Shores, WA designated August 29, 2015 as “General Aviation Appreciation Day,” recognizing Ocean Shores Municipal Airport and the significance of GA and business aviation to the local community. Review the Ocean Shores proclamation. (PDF)
NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association launched the No Plan No Gain campaign in 2009. Since that time, all 50 states and more than 100 municipalities have officially recognized GA, including business aviation. All proclamations contain several tenents of the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign, an ongoing effort to communicate to policymakers and opinion leaders the value of business aviation.
