Gov. Nikki R. Haley underscored the value of general aviation (GA), including business aviation, to her state by proclaiming Aug. 23 to 29 “South Carolina Aviation Week,” in a declaration that specifically recognized the value of business aviation. Mayors of two cities in South Carolina and two in South Dakota also issued similar proclamations in August.
In her proclamation, Haley encouraged all South Carolinians to recognize the industry for its significant contributions to quality of life, economic growth and stability. She enumerated several ways that GA and airports support citizens in the Palmetto State, including providing a gateway to communities and tourist attractions, transporting air cargo and helping law enforcement.
“Many businesses in our state rely on aviation, both commercial service and general aviation airports, for the efficient transportation of people and goods,” Haley said in her proclamation, which noted that the state is home to 61 GA airports.

NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association launched the No Plan No Gain campaign in 2009. Since that time, all 50 states and more than 100 municipalities have officially recognized GA, including business aviation. All proclamations contain several tenents of the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign, an ongoing effort to communicate to policymakers and opinion leaders the value of business aviation.
