South Carolina, Montana Recognize Aviation in August

The governors of Montana and South Carolina recently issued official statements declaring the value of general aviation (GA), including business aviation.

Gov. Steve Bullock of Montana signed a letter of support recognizing August 2014 as General Aviation Appreciation Month in the state. “GA plays a critical role in Montana’s economy and well-being,” he wrote.

Montana has 121 public-use airports that host 290,000 people per year, the letter said. The state has more than 2,500 registered GA aircraft, and is home for more than 4,000 pilots.

In South Carolina, Gov. Nikki Haley issued a proclamation declaring South Carolina Aviation Week for Aug. 17 to 23.

In her proclamation, Haley acknowledged the vital role of GA in her state’s economy, providing many thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity. “Airports support and assist South Carolina in many ways, including…providing a gateway to communities and tourist attractions, accommodating agricultural spraying, supporting air cargo and air freight shipments (and) helping law enforcement,” according to the proclamation.

“These governors know that the economic health and well-being of their state depends in part on businesses that utilize GA aircraft to reach their customers quickly and efficiently,” said Bob Quinn, NBAA’s Midwest regional representative. “NBAA appreciates the proclamations from these governors.”
