It was impossible to ignore the message of No Plane No Gain throughout the halls, conference rooms and exhibit areas of the San Jose McEnery Convention Center during the 2015 NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference (SDC2015), held Feb. 4 to 6 in San Jose, CA. Conference exhibitor Universal Weather & Aviation played a prominent role in spreading the word.

Approximately 20 of Universal’s delegates at SDC2015, including several speakers, served as ambassadors on behalf of the NBAA Schedulers & Dispatchers Committee to help make the show a success. Each Universal employee wore a No Plane No Gain pin to display their support for business aviation, with plenty of additional pins available to hand out to conference attendees.

The company took the effort a step further, posting on social media – including to the company’s more than 27,000 followers on Facebook – pictures of SDC2015 attendees proudly displaying the No Plane No Gain message throughout the event. Photo subjects ranged from Universal employees to prominent aviation stakeholders attending the event to a stuffed teddy bear showing its support for No Plane No Gain by wearing a pin.

“It’s important to show support for this vital industry and to proudly display an awareness of the issues affecting the industry and our way of life,” said Greg Evans, chairman of the board at Universal and vice chairman of NBAA’s Associate Member Advisory Council. “We often become so busy in our day-to-day roles that we lose sight of the bigger picture in Washington.”

With more than 40 offices in 19 countries, Universal has distributed thousands of No Plane No Gain pins to aviation and government officials around the world via its Universal Aviation ground support locations, international trip support offices and UVair fuel offices.

Universal also discusses business aviation issues on the company’s “Operational Insight” blog. These include messages from NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen about the importance of advocacy throughout the business aviation community and utilizing NBAA’s Contact Congress resource to spread awareness of the industry among elected officials on Capitol Hill.

“We also encourage our employees around the globe to wear their No Plane No Gain pins,” Evans added. “Even though the campaign largely focuses on the U.S. and North America, we can still create awareness of the importance of business aviation among not only U.S. clients operating worldwide, but also global operators that need to be cognizant of the issues affecting all of us.

“No Plane, No Gain is a very powerful message,” he concluded.
