Deadlines Approaching for NBAA Scholarship Applications
May 8, 2014
NBAA is currently accepting applications for a wide range of scholarships whose application deadlines are this summer or fall.
“These NBAA programs will provide tens of thousands of dollars to help promising aviation students realize their career goals,” said Jay Evans, NBAA’s director of professional development. “We strongly encourage students to take advantage of these opportunities by submitting applications.”
The Lawrence Ginocchio Aviation Scholarship annually awards $4,500 to each of five undergraduates enrolled at NBAA/University Aviation Association (UAA) member institutions. The scholarship recognizes individuals who have demonstrated honesty, integrity and selflessness in their dealings with others. These individuals should possess a passion for aviation, and have used their interest or involvement in business aviation to enhance the lives of others.
Travis Stallworth said that receiving a Ginocchio Scholarship enabled him to complete his MBA in aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University two semesters earlier than planned, and having that degree helped him get promoted to assistant chief pilot because it set him apart from everyone else in his flight department at Sonoco Products Co. In 2013, he became Sonoco’s chief pilot.
“As the youngest person in the department, earning my MBA with the help of the Ginocchio Scholarship (and NBAA’s Certified Aviation Manager credential) helped propel my aviation career,” Stallworth said.
The application for the Ginocchio Scholarship is due on July 31. Learn more about the Ginocchio Scholarship.
The application deadlines for several other NBAA awards are also fast approaching.
The Alan H. Conklin Business Aviation Management Scholarship annually awards $5,000 to an undergraduate pursuing a career in business aviation management. The student must be a sophomore or higher who is enrolled in an aviation management program at an NBAA/UAA member school. The application deadline is July 31. The William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship provides $2,500 to each of two applicants pursuing careers as maintenance technicians. One award will benefit a student enrolled in an accredited airframe and powerplant (A&P) program. The second award will benefit an individual who is not currently enrolled but has been accepted for enrollment in an A&P program. The application is due on July 31. The UAA Janice K. Barden Aviation Scholarship annually awards $1,000 to each of five undergraduates studying aviation-related curricula at NBAA/UAA member schools. The application deadline is Oct. 31. Learn more about the Barden Scholarship.
For all NBAA scholarships, an applicant is limited to receiving one award per year. Direct all scholarship questions to NBAA at (202) 783-9250 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
