NBAA Webinar on Jan. 28 Examines Impact of Leadership on Safety Culture

A flight department's safety culture hinges more on how its leaders handle people issues than on the policies and procedures that make up its safety management system (SMS), said Bob Hobbi, president and CEO of ServiceElements. As a co-chair of NBAA's upcoming Leadership Conference, Feb. 24 to 26 in Tucson, AZ, Hobbi will discuss "The Impact of Leadership on Safety Culture" in a live webinar with Chris Broyhill, transportation director for Exelon Business Services, on Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. (EST). Ebola Update Webinar Slated for Jan. 14

While the immediate Ebola threat in the United States may have subsided, several countries in West Africa are still struggling to cope with the deadly disease, and flight departments conducting operations in that region must still take precautions. For those who missed the informative Ebola education session held at NBAA's convention in October, NBAA will be offering an Ebola update webinar on Wednesday, Jan. 14, starting at noon (EST). The one-hour session is titled "Best Practices: Ebola and Business Aviation." Presenters are scheduled to include Dr. Paulo M. Alves, vice president of aviation and maritime health for MedAire; Dr. Quay Snyder, president & CEO of Aviation Medicine Advisory Service; and Michael Ott, aviation safety manager at Phoenix Air Group, the company whose specially-equipped Gulfstream transported Ebola-infected Americans back to the U.S. for treatment. Webinar Discusses International Flight With Digital Charts

A record number of participants – more than 300 Members – took part in a free NBAA webinar July 18, which discussed international flights using digital charts. The third in a series, Jeppesen sponsored and presented the hour-long session "Flying Internationally with Digital Charts," which focused on the Mobile FlightDeck, the company’s iPad electronic flight bag (EFB) app, said moderator Jo Damato, NBAA director of educational development & strategy. NBAA Third-Country Operator Webinar to Feature EASA Expert

Are you prepared for the new requirements to fly to, from or within the European Union (EU)? The European Aviation Safety Administration (EASA) recently published regulations regarding the new third-country operator (TCO) authorization, which requires commercial air transport (CAT) operators from outside EU, including U.S. Part 135 and other commercial operators, to receive a single EU-wide safety authorization to fly to, from or within the EU. An NBAA TCO authorizations webinar on July 30 will feature Andreas Cordes, EASA's team leader for third-country operators, who will discuss the new requirement, the operator application and EASA evaluation processes, along with many related issues. Don't Miss Upcoming Webinar on Runway Excursions With FAA Subject-Matter Expert

On June 24, NBAA will host a webinar titled, "Runway Excursions: The Business Aviation Perspective," focusing on risk factors that contribute to runway excursions. The webinar, which has been in the planning stages for several months, will feature Alan Gorthy of the FAA's Runway Safety Group, and will help operators gain a better understanding of how performance parameters affect pilots' ability to avoid runway excursions, as well as other incidents and accidents. The importance of the session is especially clear in light of a tragic weekend Gulfstream accident involving an excursion, which claimed the lives of seven people. Register now.
