The Australian Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development has added more than 80 business jet models to the list of aircraft allowed to operate during late-night curfew hours (11 p.m. to 6 a.m.) at Adelaide and Sydney airports.
All Stage 3 and Stage 4 business jets with a max takeoff weight of up to 34,000 kg (74,957 pounds) are now approved to fly into these airports. However, Stage 3 jets will not be permitted to operate at these airfields beyond 2022. The Australian Business Aviation Association continues to work to gain approval for business aircraft with a takeoff weight of more than 34,000 kg.
NBAA welcomes the news from Australia that will provide additional operating flexibility for businesses seeking access to Adelaide and Sydney airports.
“We congratulate David Bell, executive director of the Australian Business Aviation Association, for his tireless pursuit of these needed improvements that will significantly improve business aviation’s use of these airports,” said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president for regulatory and international affairs.
However, Warren Truss, deputy prime minister and minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, noted the update “introduces a stricter noise standard during the curfew.” Some aircraft types, such as the BAE 125-800B and Mitsubishi MU-300, are currently grandfathered but will not be permitted to operate at the airports after Dec. 21, 2022.
Truss said there are no changes to restrictions on commercial aircraft at the two airports. Sydney also continues to be capped at 80 movements per hour.
