U.S. Customs and Border Protection is conducting interviews for Global Entry program applicants at the Association’s Schedulers & Dispatchers Conference (SDC2014), Jan. 14 to 17 in New Orleans LA.
“The Global Entry program interviews were enormously popular when they were offered at our Convention in Las Vegas last October,” noted Doug Carr, NBAA vice president for safety, security, operations & regulation. “We thank them for being available to us at the Convention, and we are delighted that they have agreed to participate in our upcoming Conference in New Orleans.
“Given that many federal agencies are looking to increase efficiencies in their programs, we are pleased that CBP will participate in SDC2014, where the agency can encourage participation in Global Entry, which greatly increases the efficiency of entry-clearance processing for international travelers,” Carr added.
Upon arrival into the country, a participating traveler walks up to a Global Entry kiosk, presents a machine-readable passport or U.S. permanent resident card, has his or her fingertips read and completes a Customs declaration. The cost of the program is $100 for four years, and those participating are automatically enrolled in the domestic Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Pre-Check program, which provides expedited screening benefits at certain TSA locations.
Attendees are cautioned to plan ahead. The interview is the last step in a process that can take up to two weeks. Interviews at SDC2014 will take place Jan. 15 and 16.
Applicants must initially complete an online application, which includes information necessary for a background check. CBP will then review the application and heavily screen candidates to ensure low security risk. Upon receipt of a conditional approval from CBP, applicants will be invited to return to the system to schedule a personal interview.
Those interested in arranging a CBP interview at SDC2014 must apply through the Global Entry website. First-time users will be required to create an account with the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES), and a $100 non-refundable processing fee is due when submitting the on-line application.
