NOTAM 9/3284 - Chicago-Area Presidential TFR

TFR NOTAM 9/3284 has been issued for President Obama's visit to Chicago on June 15, 2009. Unlike previous TFRs, TFR NOTAM 9/3284 does allow some GA operations at Chicago Midway Int’l Airport (MDW) with a cutout provided by the FAA.

The northwest/southeast runways (13L, 13R, 13C, 31L, 31R, 31C) will be available, since they run parallel to the 9NM ring boundary of the TFR. However, the northeast/southwest (04L, 04R, 22R, 22L) runways at MDW will be unavailable during the TFR.

  • A 10NM TFR centered on the OBK174014.6 prohibits GA operations at O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) from 0940L(1440z) until 1050L(1550z) and again from 1215L(1715z) until 1320L(1820z) on June 15,2009.   
  • A 9NM TFR centered on the OBK143023.7 DOES NOT prohibit GA operations at any airports.  However, from 1005L(1505z) until 1300L(1800z) on June 15, 2009, certain arrivals and departures at Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) may be unavailable due to its close proximity to the 9NM TFR.  Basically, the northeast/southwest runways (04L, 04R, 22R, 22L) will be unavailable.  The northwest/southeast runways 13L, 13R, 13C, 31L, 31R, 31C) will be available, since they run parallel to the 9NM ring boundary.
  • A 30NM TFR centered on the OBK143023.7 has additional restrictions as specified in the NOTAM between the 10NM/9NM and 30NM areas effective from 0940L(1440z) until 1320L(1820z) on June 15, 2009.
