Sept. 5, 2014

Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) begins weekend closures of Runway 16/34 on Sept. 5. This is the first of five weekend closures, each running from Friday at 10 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m. The closures will change to nightly the first weekend in October.

Additionally, the instrument landing system (ILS) for Runway 16 will be shut down on Sept. 5, and will remain inoperative until at least Oct. 22, when the project is expected to be completed, and the ILS is flight checked for return to service. During construction, there is an RNAV (GPS) RWY 16 procedure available for aircraft that are capable.

After the weekend closures are completed they will begin nightly closures from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly from Oct. 6 through the 21.

These closures are for construction on the runway and engineered material arresting system beds at each end. During this project runways 12/30 and 06/24 will remain open. The airport reminds operators to exercise extra caution while operating on the airfield during construction, as barricades will be placed across closed pavements.
