Massachusetts to Invest Millions in General Aviation Airports
Massachusetts plans to invest more than $40 million in the next five years to help build or renovate administration buildings at 15 GA airports in the state, officials said. “It’s important for a businessperson or tourist arriving at a GA airport to get a good first impression of that community,” said Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Aeronautics Division Administrator Chris Willenborg. “Our statewide Airport System Plan recently found some Massachusetts airports that lack any facilities for visitors, while others have aging buildings in need of repair.” Construction or renovation at Beverly Municipal (BVY), Fitchburg Municipal (FIT), Mansfield Municipal (1B9) and Southbridge Municipal (3B0) airports will start in 2015 and cost an estimated $12.07 million, according to state officials. NBAA FLIGHT PLAN PODCAST

Positive Safety Culture Among NBAA Safety Committee’s 2014 Top Concerns

An important element in the equation for a positive safety culture is trust. Flight crews need to know that management supports their safety decisions. “We’re human. We make mistakes. We need to learn from those mistakes and move on,” NBAA Safety Committee member Roger Baker said. “That requires an environment where people aren’t afraid to admit their mistakes. Likewise, they aren’t afraid to speak up when they see mistakes are about to happen.” Learn more in this week's NBAA Flight Plan podcast.
