NBAA: Momentum Strong Going Into Convention
Excitement is high as the business aviation community counts down the final hours until the ribbon cutting that will open NBAA's Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2013) tomorrow in Las Vegas, NV. About 1,100 exhibitors will be spread over a million square feet of floor space. An outdoor static display will showcase 85 aircraft at Henderson Executive Airport, and an all-new indoor display will feature about a dozen more. Two opening sessions will feature aviation leaders and legends, including actor-pilot Harrison Ford, Gene Cernan, Sean D. Tucker, Bob Hoover and more. All week long, the NBAA2013 Online News Bureau will feature all the news and highlights from the industry's premier annual event, so be sure to check in often. Bolen Previews Business Aviation's Biggest Annual Event
As NBAA2013 gets underway, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen expressed optimism about the Convention, the industry and the Association's relationship with government leaders in the aftermath of the federal shutdown earlier this month. "We'll need to dig through a very significant backlog," Bolen said of last week's end to the shutdown as he surveyed preparations for NBAA2013 on the floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center, "so it's not business as normal, but we're open, we're moving our way back in. Las Vegas-Area Planners Highlight Economic Value NBAA2013 Brings to City
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority estimates that NBAA2013, will pump more than $40 million into the local economy, and have an impact in ways people unfamiliar with business aviation might not expect. "This event lifts me up for the year," said Marie Saady, owner of The Landings Restaurant, located on Henderson Executive Airport. "Business aviation represents 90 percent of our clientele, and the crowd we see as part of NBAA is composed of some of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. NBAA Welcomes Last Week's End of Government-Shutdown Resolution
As the business aviation community last week welcomed the end of the federal government shutdown, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen noted that although the agreement reached by Congress and the White House does reopen the government, "it may be some time before services at the FAA and other agencies are fully restored to pre-shutdown effectiveness." He noted that NBAA will keep the industry advised as to continuing shutdown-related developments at NBAA's Government Shutdown resource page .

NBAA Supports NTSB Proposed Rulemaking Affecting EIR Availability
NBAA submitted comments this week in support of revisions suggested by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to extend availability of enforcement investigation reports to pilots facing emergency enforcement action by the FAA. The board's notice of proposed rulemaking followed the release of its final rule on Sept. 19 amending the NTSB's Rules of Practice in Air Safety Proceedings, which clarified the board's revised role in consideration of pilot appeals of FAA enforcement actions as dictated by the requirements adopted under the Pilot's Bill of Rights passed in the summer of 2012. Due to the federal government shutdown that ended last week, the FAA was unable to coordinate printing and dissemination of a hardcopy version of the NOTAM publication (NTAP) dated Oct. 17. An electronic version of the Oct. 17 NTAP is posted on the FAA's publications web page .

As Campaign Nears Fifth Year, No Plane No Gain Prominent at NBAA2013

Members Can Contact Congress at Convention
At NBAA2013, NBAA is making it easy for Members to utilize the Association's Contact Congress resource to make sure that their elected representatives are aware of the concerns of their constituents regarding aviation-related issues. Attendees can utilize Contact Congress workstations at Booth N904 in the exhibit hall, where with a few clicks they can contact their congressional representative or senators and let them know about the importance of business aviation to the nation and its economy. CBP Moves Forward With Scheduled Global Entry Interviews at NBAA2013
Despite the residual impacts of the two-week government shutdown, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has confirmed that agency officials will still conduct interviews for the Global Entry Program at NBAA2013. Individuals planning to attend NBAA2013 who have been conditionally approved for Global Entry, and who have already scheduled interviews at the convention center, will be able to honor those commitments and take advantage of CBP's on-site presence. NBAA2013 Session Looks at Business Aviation Climate in China
At NBAA's Convention over the past five years, those conversant in the Asian business aviation market have been extolling the promise of China. While at first, it was theory without practice, business aviation in China is starting to take shape. "It's still a small market � only 165 business aircraft were registered there last year," said Jay Mesinger, president and CEO of Mesinger Corporate Jet Sales, Inc. The FAA has published a special air traffic procedures NOTAM for NBAA2013 in Las Vegas, NV this week. These procedures will be in effect through Thursday, Oct. 24. Teterboro Airport Closed to Airplane Operations on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2
New Jersey's Teterboro Airport (TEB) will be closed to fixed-wing operations between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. EDT on both Saturday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 2. The closure is necessary to complete a project replacing all airfield signs. Helicopter operations will be permitted during the fixed-wing closure. Operators should check the NOTAMs to confirm specific dates/times. Review the TEB Airport Operations Bulletin .
