Industry Coalition Addresses Aircraft Crew Visa Situation in India
An international coalition of aviation and business advocates has persuaded the government of India to change a visa policy that recently prevented many flightcrews from obtaining the documents necessary to enter the country. "There are still bumps in the road," said Universal Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs Lex Den Herder, who also serves on NBAA's International Operators Committee. But he also cited the ongoing dialogue between the coalition and Indian officials that he hoped would eventually lead to India's adoption of a program comparable to the automated passenger information system currently used in the U.S. Listen to this week's NBAA Flight Plan podcast for more details on the crew visa situation in India .

NBAA's Chicago Forum Delivers No Plane No Gain Message
In addition to offering opportunities for industry providers and consumers to meet, NBAA's Business Aviation Regional Forums also provide advocacy platforms to demonstrate the size, scope and diversity of business aviation to local leaders and members of the local community. Such was the case on Sept. 12, when NBAA's final Business Aviation Regional Forum of 2013 came to Waukegan National Airport outside Chicago, IL. At the event, Waukegan Mayor Wayne Motley and Waukegan Port District Chairman Jorge Torres were on hand to hear from Dick Doubrava, NBAA director of legislative affairs, and representatives with NBAA Member Companies about the industry's concerns, and its importance to the Chicago area, and across the country. Managing Passenger Expectations – Before a Flight Takes Off
Like a time machine, a business airplane can add more productive hours to a businessperson's workday. So a delay – caused by weather, air traffic control, a maintenance issue or schedule change – can have a significant impact on the passenger's expectations. "Our passengers are busy professionals, they have their day plotted to the minute," said Greg Voos, aviation office manager for The Home Depot. Nevertheless, thunderstorms, crew-duty limits and any number of other issues can affect their itinerary. The responsibility of the flight department is to communicate with passengers in advance, and provide options as early as possible. View the digital edition of Business Aviation Insider online to learn how to manage passenger expectations .

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Turkey: An Untapped Business Aviation Market
Turkey has an economy that has continued to grow despite the Eurozone's economic crisis, and as a business aviation market, it is virtually untapped. "It's a nascent market, still in its infancy," said Fabio Gamba, CEO of the European Business Aviation Association (EBAA). "That makes it so interesting to us, because there we see a remarkable level of youth and enthusiasm." Gamba suggested there are both challenges and opportunities for business aircraft operators in Turkey, pointing to the vast number of potential users in a market that has yet to be fully explored by the industry. That is one major reason why on Oct. 10 and 11 in Istanbul, EBAA will stage a regional forum called "Destination Turkey: A Powerful Hub for the Rising Euro/Asian Economy." Read more about expanding the business aviation market in Turkey .

TFRs in New York Area for UN General Assembly
The FAA plans to issue temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) during the 68th United Nations General Assembly session later this month in New York City. The first TFR, in effect Sept. 18 to 30, only impacts VFR operations at the Manhattan heliports. The second TFR, in effect Sept. 23 and 24, will prohibit general aviation operations at LaGuardia (LGA), but aircraft meeting the TFR requirements will be able to access Republic (FRG), Westchester County (HPN) and Teterboro (TEB) airports. During this TFR, gateway procedures will be established at FRG and Linden (LDJ) for the Manhattan heliports. The third TFR, in effect Sept. 23 and 24, will provide ingress/egress procedures for Morristown Municipal (MMU). Finally, the fourth TFR, in effect Sept. 23 and 24, will prohibit GA operations at JFK. Review the flight advisory .

Tampa International Runway Closure Begins Sept. 23
Due to required maintenance, Runway 1L/19R at Tampa International Airport (TPA) will be closed from Sept. 23 at 1 a.m. to Oct. 23 at 11:59 p.m. Beginning Oct. 24, the runway will only be closed from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. until approximately Nov. 23. During the closure, the shorter runways, 1R/19L and 10/28, will remain open.
