Business Aviation Groups Welcome Canadian Court's Overturn of Untenable Aircraft-Use Policy
The business aviation community on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border welcomed recent action by the Canadian Federal Court to overturn on appeal a position by the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) that would have had adverse ramifications for companies using business aviation to conduct routine flights between the two countries. The CTA had ruled that a U.S. company was providing transportation to the public, and would be required to provide the compliance and certifications of a scheduled airline carrier. After several lengthy appeal rounds, the Canadian high court overturned the CTA's position on July 18. Read more about the case .

Operators Urged to Take General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey
Each year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) invites owners of general aviation (GA) aircraft to participate in the General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey, which is used by the FAA for planning purposes and by the industry for statistical data. NBAA strongly encourages all aircraft owners who have been invited to participate in the survey to complete it online or via the mail. Learn more about the FAA's GA survey .

Wisconsin, Arkansas Hail Contributions of General Aviation
During a personal appearance last week at EAA's AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker proclaimed July 29 through Aug. 4, 2013, Aviation Week in the Badger State. That announcement came the same day as a proclamation from Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe, officially making August 2013 General Aviation Appreciation Month in his state. Nearly all U.S. states have officially recognized the value of GA, including business aviation, with all proclamations including at least some of the basic tenets of the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign, which is sponsored by NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association. FEATURED STORY

How Much Departure Duty Do I Owe on Flights From the UK?
The United Kingdom on April 1 began charging the air passenger duty (APD) on flights departing from UK airports. The departure tax is based on the number of passengers, the flight's destination and the seat configuration of the aircraft. There are also different registration requirements, depending on how often you fly from the UK, which can make compliance complicated. "The APD is a tax that has existed for commercial aircraft for many years, and now business aircraft weighing over 12,566 pounds are subject to it as well," said NBAA Operations Service Group Specialist Peter Korns. To learn how to calculate APD, see the latest edition of Business Aviation Insider .
