NBAA Challenges Southwest Airlines' Misleading Claims
About GA
Southwest Airlines recently became the latest carrier to publish an article in its in-flight magazine inferring that this summer's unprecedented
airline delays are somehow related to general aviation (GA). Of course, despite plenty of evidence from the Department of Transportation that airline
delays are mostly the product of weather and the airlines' own practices, the airlines continue using false and misleading claims like these to try
and muster support for their plan to shift billions of their costs onto GA, introduce new user fees and assume control of the air traffic control
system. NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen challenged the misleading article with a letter to Southwest CEO Gary Kelly, saying, "We had reason to hope
you would not take advantage of frustrated passengers to tell such a deceptive story." To read Bolen's letter, visit:

NBAA Newsletter Highlights Possible GA Security
Developments
The Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are reviewing new security protocols for general aviation, and
this year, the TSA could release a number of programs designed to enhance security for business aviation operations. While the TSA programs could
include both regulatory mandates and advisory guidance, it is important to note that the industry and NBAA will have an opportunity to provide
feedback before any requirements are finalized. NBAA will ensure that the Membership receives sufficient notice to provide constructive feedback.

NBAA Works to Address Access Issues at Oregon's BDN
NBAA is working with Members, local operators, city and county officials and the FAA Northwest Mountain Region to resolve access issues resulting
from airport construction at Bend Municipal Airport (BDN) in Bend, OR. Last week, NBAA's regional staff were on the ground attending meetings and
discussing the issue with local news organizations, after which a temporary agreement was reached, keeping the airport open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m., and allowing crews more time to finalize the runway project despite a noise ordinance limiting hours of construction. The Deschutes County
Commission will hold the next hearing on Wednesday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. NBAA will provide additional information as it becomes available, but
in the meantime, questions or comments can be directed to NBAA's Kristi Ivey at kivey@nbaa.org.
