NBAA Members Speak Out About President's Harmful Rhetoric, Proposals for Business Aviation

July 5, 2011

When President Obama vilified business aviation in a June 29 press conference, NBAA's instant response was echoed by companies in the Association's membership, which likewise opposed the president's denigrating remarks. For example, Wayne Estopinal, founder of The Estopinal Group (TEG) in Jeffersonville, IN, says he was livid about the president's reference to "fat cats in corporate jets." "Our company aircraft allows us to be very, very productive, and be there for our clients when they need us," he says. Estopinal says his small company, which specializes in architectural, engineering and interior design services for health care facilities, relies on a Cessna Citation CJ2 to be more efficient than would otherwise be possible. "We're a service business, and the only thing we have to offer is our time," Estopinal says. Read his full account, and listen to a podcast interview, in an NBAA Point of Impact story.

Bolen Reminds NPR Affiliate of Industry's Strong Record on Security
April 7, 2009
NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen talked this week with National Public Radio Houston affiliate KUHF 88.7 FM for the station's story on the general aviation community's frustrations with Transportation Security Administration's (TSA's) proposed Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP). In the interview, Bolen reminded local NPR listeners: "We want to do our part to harden our industry against attack. We think every industry has that responsibility and we have a long track record or reaching out to the federal government, offering ideas, taking voluntary actions. So we'd like to work in partnership with them to get this done and hopefully we'll be able to do that." Read the transcript of the interview or hear the audio.

Bolen Challenges Reason Foundation's Support for User Fees
April 7, 2009
In an interview with the online news organization Aero News Network, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen this week challenged recent claims from the Reason Foundation's Bob Poole about the business aviation community's image, and the industry's support for aviation system modernization. "Bob [Poole] is about user fees funding a commercialized, privatized air traffic control system," Bolen told Aero News. "That has been what he has been promoting for years."
