Bolen Defends Business Aviation at Congressional Hearing
While testifying before the House Aviation Subcommittee this month, NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen challenged recent critics who have questioned the value of business aviation and called for companies to divest of business aircraft. During the hearing, Bolen was asked about recent negative media coverage of the industry. "It's a fact: business aviation is essential to America," Bolen told the subcommittee. "Unfortunately, an understanding of that reality is not reflected in calls for companies to divest of their business airplanes," Bolen continued. "It's dangerous because it's costing jobs. It's dangerous because it is threatening an entire manufacturing base. It's dangerous because it is taking away a tool many companies absolutely rely on to remain competitive and survive, especially in this unforgiving marketplace." Bolen further argued that business aviation is the most prudent and cost effective means of transportation for many businesses and should be promoted, not disparaged. Read more at:

NBAA Stands Up for Business Aviation in a Turbulent Climate
NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen's testimony before the House Aviation Subcommittee this month (as referenced in the previous item) was just the latest in a series of ongoing efforts by the Association to underscore the value of business aviation with news media organizations, policymakers and others. "NBAA has aggressively stated our message about the importance of business aviation," said Bolen. "While we can't guarantee that our comments will always be accurately portrayed or even included in every story, we will nevertheless continue to press our case." He recently told the Wall Street Journal: "We're all trying to battle misperception. The vast majority of the time, these jets are flying offices, where people can conduct business and have confidential discussions that could never occur on a commercial jetliner." No Plane No Gain: GAMA and NBAA Launch Multimedia Advocacy Campaign Under Trusted Industry Banner
Looking to reinforce the value of business aviation to American workers, policymakers, companies and communities across the U.S., NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) this month unveiled a comprehensive new joint advocacy campaign with a familiar name: No Plane No Gain. The program gets its name from a campaign launched in 1993 by the same two associations. The new initiative will take full advantage of the changing ways people receive and process information today while building on proven advocacy techniques. "No Plane No Gain will underscore why business aviation is critical to tens of thousands of cost-conscious companies fighting to succeed in a difficult market," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "It will also remind people of the relief efforts and humanitarian assistance that is only possible through this mode of transportation." Visit the new No Plane No Gain web site at:

NBAA2009 Sessions to Address Needs of Light Business Airplane Operators
As first reported by NBAA in January, programming and other elements from the 2009 Light Business Airplane Conference (LBA2009), originally slated for March, will now be incorporated into the NBAA 62nd Annual Meeting & Convention this October. The LBA event was previously scheduled to take place in San Diego, CA, on March 13 and 14. However, the state of the economy caused NBAA to make adjustments to ensure maximum value for Attendees and Exhibitors. "By incorporating the Conference into the Convention, the entrepreneurs and pilots for whom LBA was designed will now be able to participate in the full two days of Education Sessions, including the Cessna Single-Pilot Safety Standdown, while attending NBAA2009," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. NBAA welcomes and encourages light business airplane operators to attend and exhibit at NBAA2009. For more information about the programming changes, visit:

NBAA2009 Charity Gala to Benefit Corporate Angel Network
This year's NBAA Charity Gala will be more of a philanthropic event than ever before. Proceeds from the 2009 event, which will again feature Silent and Live Auctions, will benefit Corporate Angel Network, a charitable organization whose mission is to ease the emotional stress, physical discomfort and financial burden of travel for cancer patients by arranging free flights to treatment centers using the empty seats on business aircraft. To ensure that Corporate Angel Network continues to help cancer patients in the current economic climate, NBAA is now soliciting donations for this year's Silent and Live Auctions, such as aviation-themed items of interest. For more information or to obtain a donation form, contact NBAA's Dina Green at dgreen@nbaa.org.
