On June 9, as part of an NBAA Board of Directors and Associate Member Advisory Council briefing to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Member Company Jeppesen donated a historically significant collection of navigation charts to the ICAO Museum.

“The ICAO Museum is an important opportunity for preserving aviation’s history,” said Doug Carr, NBAA’s vice president, regulatory and international affairs. “Jeppesen’s collection represents a critical time in the development of the industry as we know it today.”

Jeppesen’s collection included:

  • Laramie, WY chart and Salt Lake City – Cheyenne mileage table from 1936
  • Four-leg range approach chart for Denver, CO from October 1940
  • Chicago, IL area chart from 1940
  • Several route mileage charts, which include terrain profiles from 1940
  • A high altitude RNAV chart from 1973
  • A low enroute chart from 1960
  • One complete revision envelope, charts included, addressed to Mrs. J.H. Jeppesen in Portland, OR, postmarked Nov. 26, 1947

“NBAA is very grateful for Jeppesen’s significant donation to the ICAO Museum in Montreal,” said Carr. “These items highlight company founder Capt. Elrey B. Jeppesen’s history and outlook on a business that has helped to define safe aviation operations around the globe.”

“The Jeppesen donation is meaningful in that it fills an important gap in the collection of ICAO showing the history of civil aviation,” said Kurt Edwards, director general of the International Business Aviation Council. “The business aviation community should be proud of its role in facilitating this significant gift.”

The Jeppesen collection will soon be housed in a permanent exhibit.

The ICAO Museum opened on Dec, 5, 2014, and is located at ICAO headquarters in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The museum’s creation was part of activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (the Chicago Convention), and it is intended to trace the history of air transport and pay tribute to the developments related to ICAO’s past, present and future.
