NBAA Congratulates FAA Official on Lifetime Achievement Award
July 25, 2014
NBAA congratulates Peggy Gilligan, associate administrator of aviation safety at the FAA, for having received the L. Welch Pogue Award for Lifetime Achievement in Aviation, in recognition of her contributions to aviation safety.
"Peggy has always been receptive to our input regarding business aviation’s priorities," said Steve Brown, NBAA’s chief operating officer. "We congratulate her on being recognized for her contributions, which have strengthened aviation safety initiatives at the FAA."
Gilligan became associate administrator for aviation safety in January 2009, after serving as the deputy associate administrator in for 14 years. She has been with the FAA since 1980. In her role, Gilligan leads the organization responsible for setting, overseeing and enforcing safety standards for all parts of the aviation industry. Aviation Safety programs are carried out by a work force of more than 7,000 employees located in Washington headquarters, regional and directorate offices, and more than 125 field offices throughout the world.
The award is named for L. Welch Pogue, who was an author and attorney, as well as the chair of the FAA’s predecessor agency, the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board from 1942 to 1946. He was also the U.S. delegate to the 1944 Chicago Convention, which established the International Civil Aviation Organization. The L. Welch Pogue Award is presented to individuals who are considered visionaries and leaders in the field of aviation.
Gilligan received the award at the annual L. Welch Pogue Award Dinner, held last month in Washington, DC.
