women and girls talking about flying

As part of NBAA’s ongoing work to interest young people in aviation careers, Association staff frequently participate in aviation-themed events for children and young adults. As one recent example, NBAA’s Jo Damato, director, operations & educational development, earlier this month participated in the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum’s Women in Aviation & Space Day. Hundreds of girls and boys learned about the contributions made by women throughout the history of aviation, science and space exploration.

“It’s important to keep younger generations interested in aviation, and it often requires only a few people to organize an afternoon of fun for the kids to be hooked on aviation for life,” Damato said. “Events like the one at the Smithsonian are important, because they represent an investment today in the leaders of tomorrow.”

Earlier this year, Damato was the featured speaker at the local Zonta International Chapter’s Amelia Earhart Day, and last month, she was a speaker on two panels at the Women in Aviation International 2009 Conference.
