ND, NH Governors’ Proclamations Reaffirm Support for Business Aviation

Gov. Jack Dalrymple of North Dakota and Gov. Margaret Wood Hassan of New Hampshire both issued proclamations this month reaffirming their support for general aviation (GA), including business aviation. Each proclamation contains several of the values detailed in the No Plane No Gain advocacy campaign.

“Many North Dakota businesses use aviation as a tool for conducting daily operations, including the transportation of personnel and freight, air emergency service and medical evacuation, wildlife control and law enforcement observation,” Dalrymple wrote, adding that the aviation industry in his state supports thousands of jobs and contributes more than $1.6 billion annually to the economy.

“We are very excited to see continued growth within the North Dakota business aviation community,” said Kyle Wanner, interim director of the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission.

“Not everyone appreciates the value of business flying in a state like North Dakota,” said Kristi Ivey, NBAA’s Northwest regional representative. “With 70,700 square miles, many of the state’s 723,323 people would often be without quickly-delivered products and services were it not for business aviation. NBAA thanks Gov. Dalrymple for his proclamation and continued support of business flying in the state.”

In New Hampshire, Hassan said that her state “has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators.”

“General aviation plays a vital role in New Hampshire’s response to emergencies and natural disasters,” she said, adding added that out of every 1,000 workers, more than eight are employed in aerospace and aviation, representing a significant economic impact to the state.

“Gov. Hassan recognizes the critical role general aviation plays in the state,” said Dean Saucier, NBAA’s Northeast regional representative. ”She understands that many communities depend heavily on business aviation for commerce, tourism, emergency services and provide residents and visitors alike a better quality of life.”

To date, 49 states have officially recognized the value of GA, including business aviation, with all proclamations incorporating at least some of the basic tenets of the No Plane No Gain campaign, which was launched in early 2009, and is jointly sponsored by NBAA and the General Aviation Manufacturers Association.
