Safety Standdown USA

The 15th Annual Safety Standdown USA will be held from October 24 to 27, 2011, in Wichita, KS, at the Hyatt Regency Wichita Hotel.

Learn. Apply. Share.

Offered by Bombardier in partnership with NBAA, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, Safety Standdown USA is a non-commercial effort to improve business aviation safety by combining skill-based training with knowledge-based training. Offered free of charge, the seminar is not aircraft- or manufacturer-specific, and the information presented is applicable to any aircraft flown.

Now in its 15th year, the event has evolved from a department-training day for eight pilots to a four-day event for as many as 500 attendees. The 2011 agenda offers a new format, mixing workshops, practical training and general sessions. This year's seminar also will feature new live fire training and bring back the popular land evacuations training.

Subject-matter experts will conduct full and half-day workshops on the following topics:

  • Aircraft accidents and consequences
  • Airborne weather radar
  • Ditching and underwater egress training
  • Human factors in aviation
  • International procedures
  • Behaviors and mindsets
  • Advanced aerodynamics
  • Aircraft evaculation procedures
  • Hypoxia recognition and recovery training
  • Aircraft performance
  • Automation airmanship for corporate aviation
  • Flight safety lessons from the U.S. Air Force
  • Runway ground operations safety
  • Safety management system and safety culture
  • Safety management sysetms for maintenance

Why Attend Safety Standdown?

Human factors, while well understood, are rarely taught. Since eight out of 10 aircraft accidents are caused by human failure, not equipment failure, Safety Standdown provides critical information and training on topics directly related to human performance. Additionally, this seminar provides participants with tools to mitigate risk, improve flight department procedures and processes, and analyze their own performance and professionalism.
