This session will introduce business aviation options available to consumers, ranging from aircraft charter, fractional/shared ownership through whole aircraft ownership and variations within each option such as setting up an in-house flight department versus hiring an aircraft management company. The advantages/disadvantages of each option will be addressed.

Aviation Regulatory Regimes
The International Civil Aviation Organization provides overarching guidelines for state regulations applicable to business aviation operations. These ICAO principles and European operational regulations will be discussed in the context of commercial vs. non-commercial operations and distinctions in specific countries where business aircraft are based or operate. Presenters will address considerations for international operations.

Lunch is included in the registration fee. Following the meal, presenters will discuss current developments in aircraft bookings, deliveries, and general market conditions.

Taxation of Business Aircraft
The purchase of an aircraft may impose a tax on the buyer or seller. General aircraft tax considerations will be introduced, such as what taxes may apply and how should that influence my decision as to where to base or operate an aircraft. Experts will discuss specific tax applicability in various European countries, and illustrate tax strategies that could be employed.

Aircraft Registration Considerations
This session will address common and important registration topics of interest to aircraft owners such as the Geneva Convention, the Cape Town International Registry, citizenship issues, the use of “owner trusts” and “based-and-primarily used” rules for registration of aircraft in the U.S., and moving aircraft from one registry to another state’s registry.

Understand how the changing Value Added Tax (VAT) rules may impact business aircraft sales and operation costs. Learn strategies for minimizing VAT exposure for aircraft owners and operators within the EU.

The Transaction
An overview of the transactional process, including: picking the right partner; knowing what agreements are normally required; differences in the process from country to country; common pitfalls of business aircraft transactions; and handling exportation of aircraft from a customs perspective. Best practices for buyers and for sellers will be offered.
