Making the Case for Business Aircraft Tax Deductions

When using an aircraft for business purposes, taxpayers must pay close attention to the rules that govern deductibility of aircraft ownership and operating costs. For travel to be deductible as a business expense certain IRS tests must be met and necessary records retained. During this Session, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the IRS rules that cover deductibility of travel expenses;
  • Develop a system for maintaining the records necessary to document the purpose of each flight; and
  • Apply the IRS tests to help determine if specific flights are deductible as a business expense

Business Aviation Update from the NTSB

Presented by Earl Weener, Ph.D., Member, National Transportation Safety Board
Learn about the latest business aviation safety issues from NTSB Member Dr. Earl Weener, who has served on the Safety Board since June 2010. Prior to joining the NTSB, he served as a consultant and fellow for the Flight Safety Foundation. During this Session, participants will learn how to:

  • Utilize the latest NTSB guidance on in-flight icing prevention to enhance safety;
  • Understand the NTSB accident investigation process; and
  • Review important NTSB safety recommendations for business aviation

Tire Safety Update

Presented by Keat Pruszenski, Michelin North America, Inc.

Recent alerts from the FAA and NTSB have highlighted the serious dangers of under inflated aircraft tires. If tires are not inflated to the proper pressure, aircraft performance during taxi, takeoff and landing can be compromised. During this session, participants will learn how to:

  • Conduct preflight inspections to verify correct tire pressures;
  • Understand the specific roles that pilots and maintenance personnel should play in tire inspections; and
  • Review the impact of factors such as temperature on tire inflation
