On Wednesday, Sept. 17, NBAA, along with the North Texas Business Aviation Association (NTBAA) and the Love Field Pilots Association, will sponsor a program to attract young professionals to the industry by co-hosting a mentoring session for local high school and college students at Dallas Love Field. The event will run from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Business Jet Center FBO.

The session takes place the day before NBAA’s Dallas Business Aviation Regional Forum at Love Field.

“Our goal is to provide a venue for young men and women interested in a career in business aviation,” said Jacque Walker, who expects as many as 50 attendees.

The program will include an introduction to a half-dozen business aviation careers, and more than a dozen industry insiders – pilots, flight attendants, schedulers and dispatchers, maintenance personnel, marketing experts, equipment suppliers and more – will be on hand to provide information, answer questions and interact with attendees. Students also will have an opportunity to examine aviation equipment and get a closer look at business aircraft parked in the hangar where the mentoring takes place.

“NBAA had asked if we would be interested in using our contacts to reach out to students interested in a business aviation career,” said Walker, who emphasized that “the most important goal of the mentoring is not merely finding a job, but discovering a career.”

NBAA provides other opportunities for students to get involved in the industry. For example, the association encourages students to find career mentors at NBAA event-based networking opportunities, including the Careers in Business Aviation Day, held annually at NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition. This year, the program takes place on Oct. 23 in Orlando, FL on the last day of the convention.

NBAA also offers a growing number of scholarships, some of which provide money for tuition reimbursement and other education opportunities. There is also a syllabus of on-demand education resources with live webinars led by subject matter experts on the most current industry topics.
