Arizona Business Aviation Association Teams with Angel MedFlight to Offer Scholarship
April 27, 2012
For the third consecutive year, the Arizona Business Aviation Association (AZBAA), in conjunction with Angel MedFlight, is offering a $3,000 Scholarship for Excellence in Aviation to students pursuing a degree in business aviation. The scholarship is available to US students pursing an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in aviation at either a two- or four-year Arizona college or university that offers an aviation program, according to Ken Casey, AZBAA president and director of aircraft sales and acquisitions for Pinnacle Aviation.
The scholarship is one of many that AZBAA offers to students interested in pursuing aviation careers, or current aviation professionals who want to continue their education, Casey said.
“We have an annual charity golf tournament, and the money we raise from the tournament funds our scholarship program,” he said, adding that more than 130 people participated in this year’s tournament. “Our organization has been offering aviation scholarships since it was founded in 2000.”
Casey said the association offers its scholarships not only to students pursuing a degree, but also to those pursing any business aviation career. “We want not only more pilots, but also flight attendants and maintenance technicians,” he said. “There are so many other areas that are part of the Arizona business aviation community; we wanted to be sure we’re supporting the full breadth of the industry.”
The annual Scholarship for Excellence in Aviation was created by Angel MedFlight, an international air medical transport provider. To be considered for the award, applicants must submit a video, completed application, resumé, school transcript and two letters of recommendation. The AZBAA scholarship committee reviews applications and rates candidates based on their academic resumé and community involvement, as well as on their aviation-related activities, said Jenna Murray, spokesperson for Angel MedFlight.
Applications for the 2012 scholarship must be postmarked by June 4, 2012. The scholarship award will take place in August. For more information, visit www.angelmedflight.com/ azbaascholarship.html or www.azbaa.org, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
