NBAA recently presented its Silk Scarf Award to Gordon Hoff, executive director of the Minnesota Business Aviation Association (MBAA), for his work on behalf of the association, and his dedication to educating others about the value of aviation in the state.

“Not only has Gordon worked hard to advance aviation in Minnesota, but he has generously given of his time to help a variety of other regional groups and organizations in their efforts to promote aviation in their states,” noted Bob Quinn, NBAA’s Central regional representative, who presented Hoff with the award at NBAA’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA2013) in Las Vegas, NV during the Local and Regional Group Networking Session on Oct. 23.

Hoff has been executive director of the MBAA since 2010; he joined the group in 2005 as its government liaison. Recently, he was instrumental in helping get passed an omnibus tax bill that makes the first substantive changes to the state’s aviation fees and taxes since they were conceived in 1945. On July 1, 2014, a flat annual registration fee based on an aircraft’s list price will replace a formula of percentages and a seven-year depreciation schedule.

Hoff previously served as manager of the Minnesota Department of Transportation Aeronautics, Aviation Education Services, as well as an associate dean at Minneapolis College’s Aviation Center. He began his education career as a high school teacher.

Hoff has a master’s degree in British history from Mankato State University and a bachelor’s degree in social studies form North Dakota State University. He has a private pilot certificate, as well as ground school instructor certification.

In addition to MBAA, his affiliations include: National Aeronautic Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and Federation Aeronautique Internationale Aviation & Space Education Committee.
